The debut of Rapinoe's FIFA Women's World Cup debut took place in 2011. She helped lead in the U.S. Women's World Cup team to consecutive victories in 2015. In 2018 she was able to assume the position of cocaptain to the U.S. team. Rapinoe has was a goal scorer for United States in the 4-3 victory over Australia during the bronze Olympic medal match in Tokyo in 2020 because of the COVID-19 epidemic that Japan was forced to postpone to 2021 due to the effects from this epidemic, also was awarded the gold medal at Tokyo in 2016.
